Eastern State Hospital members rallied today (May 11) in Medical Lake to press management for action on safety. They don’t want the same kind of recent tragedies at Western State Hospital to repeat at Eastern State Hospital.
They gathered at the flagpole in AFSCME green shirts and waved a number of different signs. Local 782 President Trevor Travers (at right in photo) told reporters “we need safe staffing levels now before someone dies.” KREM TV report.
Local 782's Diane Womack takes to the podium to plead for action on safety issues, but the sign says it all.
Binders with evidence compiled by Local 782 members of short-staffing hazards added an exclamation point to the rally.
WFSE/AFSCME delegates to today's Washington State Labor Council COPE (Committee on Political Education) endorsements conference in Seattle embraced Jay Inslee for governor. Both the Federation and WSLC had previously endorsed Inslee, who showed up Saturday to accept the endorsement.
At today's WSLC endorsements conference, WFSE delegates turned their backs on Secretary of State candidate Jim Kastama, who turned his back on them when he joined Republicans to hijack the state Senate.
Kastama (background, at podium) tried to carry on his speech in the face of the silent WFSE/AFSCME protest of his turncoat actions during the legislative session.
